Environment Eco label The aim is to award a community eco-label to products and services with reduced environmental impacts. The scheme is voluntary. Thus, it will not become legislation. Criteria are established for individual product groups, such as paper products, shoes, textiles, detergents, paints and appliances such as refrigerators or dishwashers. The European eco-label is part of a broader strategy aimed at promoting sustainable consumption and production. Following the current discussion in the Commission, book publishers can also adopt the eco-label. Latest developments : If no agreement is found between DG Environment and DG Enterprise, the negotiation will continue at Cabinet’s level.
