Green paper on the review of the consumer acquis

New Commissioner for Consumer Protection, Meglena Kuneva has published in February 2007 a Green Paper on the Review of the Consumer Community acquis. It proposes to review eight Directives on consumer protection, which have become outdated. These cover a wide range of areas including guarantees, distance selling, package travel, timeshare and unfair contract terms. The paper looks mainly at the legal principles from a horizontal perspective. The changes are more to put the Directives into line with other existing texts, which were issued in the last few years (such as the eCommerce Directive) and other inconsistencies.
